save it for later

driving around earlier in the day, we were listening to the english beat on cassette, the perfect sunny day soundtrack. who knew that we'd be seeing them live later that night?! sometimes la weekly is good for something. they opened up with 'i confess' to a packed crowd at the key club.

everything was tight, and simply amazing. the crowd was completely wrapped around their fingertips. dave wakeling's singing was just effortless.

they did all the favorites: 'i confess', 'twist and crawl', 'tears of a clown', 'stand down margaret', 'mirror in the bathroom' ... and closed with 'tenderness'. sigh.

richard blade was the host! so glad he's still kind of in the mix.

abc, on the other hand, was sort of a tired act to stand through. pretty harsh. anyway, it was like seeing an old uncle prancing onstage in a shiny lavender suit, kissing his fingers and pointing at his fans. 'shoot that poison arrow ...'
